Id suggest getting a 980ti instead of a titan x. Its the same speed and costs 300 less.

A 1tb ssd is probably overkill and id gett a 500gb and a 4tb hdd.

If he has the budget and needs the storage, I'd say go for it. I use only SSDs other than for backups now.

There is no indication how the build will be used. Given a ROG motherboard, I will assuming it's a gaming system.

Performance wise its about 8.5/10. Value wise, about 5/10.

The cpu cooler is louder than most, especially when not running full out. It is also not a superior cooler.

GTX 980 Ti is a much better value than the Titan X. Its gaming performance is very close to the Titan X and it is significantly less expensive.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Yes it is for gaming.

Value wise what would you recommend to lower the cost?

Which CPU cooler would you go about?

I know the 980 Ti has been reviewed as better than the Titan X. However I chose the Titan X because of the monitor on max settings and future proofing. Plus I wanted the Titan X Hydro, but its not available anywhere at this time.

The NH-D15 is a lower cost, better performance cpu cooler. If one wants the better looks of an AIO, H100i V2, H110i GTX, or Kraken X61 do a better job. I would pick the more expensive Kraken X61. Mostly because it can be configured to run quieter than the others.

There are GTX 980 Ti hydros and hybrids. As http://www.anandtech.com/show/9306/the-nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-ti-review/18 indicates the difference between the two gpu is very small, even at high resolutions. Just look at the benchmarks. Besides, the savings of going with the GTX 980 Ti leaves you almost halfway to a second one.

Changing the cpu cooler to one that does a better job and/or is less expensive coupled with using a GTX 980 Ti improves the value score over 8 in my opinion. It's not going to go any higher simply because the motherboard, cpu, memory size, and monitor make it a premium build. Premium parts are not usually the most cost effective. But I would rate performance over 9.

980Ti's often even outperform titan x's in gaming. Even though the Titan has what 12Gb of vram, you'll likely NEVER need that much. If you want the best of the best just to say you have it, you might think about waiting for polaris and/or pascal, get one of each of their flagships and use dx12 to run them together.

K went ahead and tweaked the build somewhat by taking off the old SSD, adding a different SSD with a 2 TB HDD and still managed to stay close to the original price.

Should I even bother going SLI though with another 980 Ti?

They're rumored to probably come out around computex, NVIDIA probably the day before, but neither NVIDIA nor AMD have given an official launch date, so who knows?

Looking good.

Why a 4x4GB memory kit instead of 2x8GB?

I tend to be hdd agnostic, but that particular Seagate 2TB model, (st2000dm001), is not known for reliability.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
