Push my OC further?

Backed the V off by .02 and temps dropped 10C xD
I think I'm going to keep it at this for now. Gonna run a stress test for a while to make sure though. Going on 10 minutes so far with 4.4GHZ and 1.25V

Good luck!

So I'm currently sitting at 4.0GHZ on my i5 4690k.
I was at 4.2 GHZ, but I had a crash one day so I pushed it back a bit.
I just added 3 fans to my case and Hyper 212. Temps have dropped by 10C on Prime95.

I feel like I could push it further, but I'm not sure if it would be worth it or what settings I should use.

Using the " LTT Forums CPU Overclocking Database! " I see most people got it to around 4.5-4.7 with ~1.3V

What do you guys suggest?

Yeah why not, just keep the voltages in the 1.3-1.25 range.

I'd probably do 1.3v for my 24/7 but if you want to push it to 1.35v and see what you can get and use that when you do benchmarks then go for it.

Go as highas you want as long as temps are under 85C and voltage is under ~1.35v

Anyone got a recommended voltage to try 4.5ghz? I know the higher the voltage the more the heat and it'll crash if it doesn't have enough voltage, but thats about all I know...

So I just failed an overclock for the first time... Got a bit of a heart attack while doing so...

It crashed, I rebooted and it wouldn't boot xD

I had to restore to default settings (I'm using the intel tool to get the numbers first, then going to put it in)

I'm assuming i had too low of voltage. I was at 4.5 @ 1.3, but it got too hot (started hitting ~80 within 30 seconds of prime95 starting), so I pushed it back to 4.3 @ 1.25 and it crashed...

Anyone got an idea for 4.3-4.5ghz that wont go too warm? I'm assuming around 1.275v is the max I can go because of temperatures... I want to keep them below ~75C

it looks like you weren't very lucky with the silicon lottery . Maybe try 1.3V ? You never know how chips react to additionnal voltage

75c is actually pretty good. You can let it get to 80, even one or two degrees above that is still fine.

But anyway, just try it yourself and find the limits of your chip. You are already way past the stage of getting recommended settings from us.

No, when I put it to 1.3V it got too hot. I'm looking to keep it around 1.275 or less. Was at 1.159 I think for my 4.2

I was using the intel tool to get a base idea of where I could go to, then I was going to take it to the BIOS when I find the sweet spot.

I was at about 4.5 on 1.3V and it was fine aside from the temps.
I went to 4.3 on 1.24V and it crashed.
Before I went to push it, it was 4.2 at about 1.159V if I remember correctly.

The thing is , whatvoltage are you physically setting in the bios ? And what do you get in cpu-z/ HWmonitor ?

Before today, it was 4.2ghz and 1.154V in the BIOS.
Today I haven't messed with the bios. I'be been using the intel extreme tuning utility.
It was set to 4.3ghz and 1.24V on the program when it crashed.

First of all , don't use intel XTU for overclocking , as the actual applied voltage is unpredictable .

I would use it . Use the bios for all modification of the multiplier /voltage and other utilies like intel burn test or p95 for stress testing along with your monitoring utilities.
