Stock AMD Fan replacemente

justMiga

Hi guys :)
I had few pc parts laying around, so i decided to make a HTPC, everything works well except for the CPU Cooler, which does its job, but is very loud since the Athlon X2 4600+ is always at full load with windows 7 installed. My question is:
Is it possible to replace the stock fan of the Heatsink with a classic 120mm and use some zip tie to make it solid? Thanks :)

waht size fan is on there now, surely it cant be a 120mm?? ( i could be wrong but its prolly an 80mm ) i mean sure you could prolly use a 120 but 80mm fans are really cheap.

i think it is an 80 or 92mm, most probably 80. I was considering doing that just to use what i have at home, i don't want to spend any more money on this project...

I'd suggest just replacing the cooler since you'll get something that will work better than that stock cooler. Since you're talking an X2, one cooler I've used with very good success is the Noctua NH-L9a. It's a low profile cooler with a 92mm fan, and very quiet.

Wife's build: Amethyst - Ryzen 9 3900X, 32GB G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4-3200, ASUS Prime X570-P, EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 12GB, Corsair Obsidian 750D, Corsair RM1000 (yellow label)

My build: Mira - Ryzen 7 3700X, 32GB EVGA DDR4-3200, ASUS Prime X470-PRO, EVGA RTX 3070 XC3, beQuiet Dark Base 900, EVGA 1000 G6

Experiment Done! Replaced the Fan with some zip ties. The temperature rose from 65 to 74 with the fan running at 80%. The system is noticebly less louder than it was before. :)
