Greetings, I am here for some advice on the current market of building a computer for my Gilfriend, Currently I just built my first pc and Now I am looking to make one for her so she can have one,

The Trouble I am currently having is that I planned on using my old i7-2600 from my old Dell computer and simply Find a mobo for it, After doing some research, It's proved difficult to find a decent or reputable(in my eyes) motherboard for this older Sandy Bridge, Some basics

She Will use it for some gaming(not very graphics dependent) Some light video editing, Maya, and some Adobe flash some of Premiere, She is a current animation student and I would like to just have something for her that can meet all of those requirements rather decently

I want to ask the question, Should I try to Salvage the i7 i currently have and try my luck on finding a mobo, OR just scrap the 2600 idea and start fresh with a 4th or 5th gen cpu (i5 range)

My budget is rather limited thus why I planned salvaging the i7, I'd like to say around $500-$750 US

the ONLY thing I have myself is I planned to split my ram in my current pc which would be 16 gb(2x8) Crucial Ballistic ddr3-1600

Everything else, hard drives, case, monitor, periphs, i'd all have to also purchase, Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

You can find some older mobo's for that i7, what games do you want to play?

Most of the games are older games like Left for dead, but also maybe some of the new ones, Subnautica for example and Tomb Raider, GTA V, Borderlands 2 + pre-seq, Life is Strange, A multitude of varieties, I don't suspect any big time AAA games though,

Then it should be OK. You can find a Z68 or Z77 mobo from Ebay

Alright Thanks Ghz, Any brands you recommend I should look for or stray away from? I just recently got into the PC building and finally rid myself of the dell proprietary setup I had. So far I'm a fan of MSI but I'll take whatever else you wouldn't mind sharing.

i planned on it, or I would rip my current overkill cooler an H55 off my i5-4590s and stick the evo on mine, I heard the 2600's can get pretty toasty,

Good idea.
