SSD Issues

CasualNick

I assume this would be the correct place to post this under.

So I bought a sandisk 120gb ssd. And it's plugged in and is identified in my bios as is. Though it's not being read when in Windows. The SATA mode is under AHCI. Not sure what else I could do.

thanks in advance

You need to format the drive in order to use it.

Thread moved to Storage Devices.

Have you checked Disk Management in Windows? You may have to assign it a partition(s).

EDIT: Also, the Storage Devices or Troubleshooting subforums would have been the more appropriate place to post this.

Try a different SATA port. And is your SATA cable damaged in any way?

@Godlygamer23 It shouldn't be in any way as far as I know. Would it be damaged and still read the SSD in my Bios?

That I cannot say for sure, and I'm mainly trying to cover all possible bases before we declare the SSD defective.

Do you have another system you could plug this drive into?

@CasualNick I would suggest updating/reinstalling your board's SATA controller drivers and see if that helps. Most boards will have two controllers (One Intel and one ASMedia, for example)

Unfortunately not. Though in my disk management it is seeing this

And going to it's properties > drivers, it says i have the latest drivers installed.

Are you sure it's not appearing in the list of drives at the bottom? The SSD is clearly being detected by Windows.

This is the area you need to be focusing on:

@Godlygamer23 Yea, it's gotta be seeing it. Though it is unallocated.

Issue solved.

Right click on the Unallocated section and click New Simple Volume. Follow the onscreen prompts.

@Godlygamer23, @Oshino Shinobu, thanks a ton guys, i'm sorry if this was painful for you both, but I really appreciate it.
