Mini-PCIe port in modern devices

I found this article about MJ's new Ubuntu tablet. Looking at the specifications, it appears to have a Mini-PCIe port (amongst other impressive specs). Does anyone know what this is used for? Is it pre-populated with a wireless card? and if so, why?

Nope, it won't be pre-populated but you can put anything you want in there. It's going to be the same as any hdmi port on a laptop you have for example.
