What are some common network issues

So the CIS class i am in at the moment just started our annual end of year project. This project normally consists of us picking a topic from out compenencies list and having to make a slide presentation a script then a hands on instructional video about the subject as well as a research paper. My grasp of protocols isnt the best so i decided to go with troubleshooting common wired and wireless network issues. So now im trying to come up with a big list of simple or at least common and quick to solve issues that the average user may encounter. I want my video to cover at least 2-3 issues and i need to fit them into a 11 minute max video. 

 

So heres my question for all of you. If you would be so kind as to give me a list of issues youve had to troubleshoot in the past that wherent super complex and while the average person wouldnt know how to solve it someone studying networking would be able to figure it out in a short ammount of time. They need to be things that are easy to reproduce and can be done on windows 10 or ubuntu (through a vm) 

 

Something involving resetting a router or reconfiguring the router is not a viable issue since 1 i plan to do the ovely basic reset router thing since it lets me eat up about 1 minute but i have one of those comcast provided modems so configuration isnt really an option especially with a step dad that likes to have no faith in you when you know exactly what your doing.

 

Any and all ideas for issues are much appriciated though!

these are the issues i have down so far 

*WRONG SUBNET

 

*RESETTING ROUTER

 

*CANT SEE NETWORK OR IP ADDRESS INFORMATION INCORRECT (STATIC CONFIGURATION TUTORIAL)

 

*LOSS OF CONFIGURATION

 

things like this are not bad but i want tomsehing interesting. Even better would be something that is obscure or is simple but fascinating like something thats entirely terminal based even

DNS server does not respond. Happened fairly often with me in the Netherlands. Solving the problem was simple, just needed to change the DNS server to Google's (8.8.8.8)

thanks can you detail it a bit more like was this within the browsers settings (since last i checked if i remember right chrome can have seperate settings as compared to the system itself) and how i could replicate it

Probably not worth adding to your slides but the most common is actually, turn your wifi on . So many people log service desk calls for broken wifi and they have pressed the disable function button on the keyboard.

Router firmware breaks and you need to reset it to factory settings.

or

plugging rj-11 to rj-45 slot and vice versa

or

NIC drivers dont install after installing windows

those might not work. i dont really have a router that i can just factory reset for the sake of recording. and how would you manage to plug an rj-11 into a rj-45... or even worse vice versa i mean that takes some serious determination to manage to do. if you can find an image of that kind of dumb shit please TELL ME i have to see this to beleive it

... sometimes people are specific enough
