Flickering laptop screen

Hello,

 

I have an Acer S7 laptop and recently the screen on it has started dimming / flickering causing the image to get much whiter then back to normal and flickering between all the in between stages. Here's a video of what I mean, it happens in the first few seconds. Doesn't quite capture the all of what is happening but it's the best I was able to record.

 

Is this likely a fault in the screen? I was hoping it was a connection problem but after taking the back off and pushing all the cables I could to ensure they are property connected it didn't seem to have any affect.

 

Are screens like this replaceable if that is the problem? It's a touch screen too.

Maybe it's the motherboard (PWM mechanism), please do some tests:

 

1. Does it happen in 0% brightness? 100%?

2. Does it happen in safe mode? or, say, when you're in the bios?

I've just tried both of those out & it happens at all brightness levels except for the lowest, which seems to turn the screen off. I've been booted into the bios for a little while now and the screen appears to be working fine in that.

 

Something else I should add I dual boot this laptop with Windows 8.1 & Ubuntu and have done for a while without issue but this screen problem started recently and in both OSs.
