hey, i have an i7-3770k oc to 4.5 w/ 1.29v (it is high i know but i guess it is the chip, it wont get stable at any lower) and an h80i, but the idle temps are around 40c and prime 95 small fft it gets to anywhere from 85-95....not normal in my opinion, i had an i5 760 oc to 4.4 (dont remember the temps exactly but they were around 70c-80c on a hyper212 evo). so yeah....is this normal for the 3770k and the h80i?

as tight as i can get it. i pasted and re-pasted no joke around a dozen times now, using ic diamond (and the first time it was wtv that pre-applied stuff they put on h80i), also, before anyone says it, i know how to paste my cpu's/gpu's, lol. i no longer have my hyper 212 evo so i cant really test out another heatsink. p.s. i exchanged my h80i twice now already, thinking that was the problem, it isnt, unless all 3 were defective and i highly doubt that. on blend it doesnt go over 70c, but it did jump for a couple seconds to 90.

Well then end result - take it back to stock and test what the temps are now. In the world of silicon there is something called the silicon lottery - sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose. This may be a case where you lost, ie excessive heat at OC...

That's correct - offcially Intel only supports running at stock speed - if it doesn't OC well, out of luck. The K series just means it is unlocked for overclocking. They could never guarantee any min OC or temp...

Honestly, you may want to get yourself a decent air cooler and see if you can get any better temps. Maybe from somewhere that you know you can return it within 30 days if it doesn't work out. Also, do you have adequate airflow (cool) being drawn into the case? I wonder if the ambient air in your room or in the case is just to high to the cooler to be that effective.

ambient is between 21-24 depending on the time of day, it is digitally controlled. and its a raven 3 case. i have 2 180mm air penetrators on the bottom 1 nf-f12 in the front, and 1 spectre pro in the back, wait, here it is: http://linustechtips.com/main/forum/the-workbench/build-logs/102466-blue-sun?p=104753#post104753

yeah ill see of the bestbuy or futureshop has a decent cooler on hand, the other 3 computer places charge you a "restocking" fee if you return anything, and one even charges you some other ridiculous amount for heatsinks.
