I've started a project to host media on a phone over a LAN.

currently what i have set up:

samsung galaxy s3 with a 32GB micro SD

FTP Server Ultimate App

i've been able to download and upload files to the FTP server from a computer that is in the network using filezilla ftp client.

i plan on adding a hard drive to the phone using an OTG splitter cable which has 2 USB ports and a micro USB port for charging. if my phone supports OTG (which i don't yet know, OTG cable is on it's way) then i will see if my phone recognises a normal thumb drive.  files can only be downloaded/uploaded to the server.

I want to be able to stream videos from the server onto devices on my network including a smart TV. i've heard of other server methods like samba but haven't read into it too much.

update:

i've scrapped FTP server and now i'm using a samba server. with the samba server i can stream videos from my phone to my PC. now i need to find out how to stream to other android devices and smart TV's.

i'm using SambaDroid app for the samba server on my phone.
