Hello internets,

So over the last week I've experienced this strange phenomenon with my WiFi in that my desktop eats up every last little bit of it that it can, when it's on nobody (including the desktop) can connect to the internet properly, wired or wireless. We had a brief respite when I attempted to turn it off the other day and absent-mindedly left a word document open, so of course the computer closed everything else but that word document and when I got home that afternoon I was greeted by a text box asking me to save instead of a powered down computer. I cancelled the shut down and the internet worked fine for everyone. Unfortunately, following a program install I had to restart the PC and now we're back at square one.

Any ideas on what my issue is and/or how to fix it?

Edit: I should also note that when the desktop is off all other devices get the WiFi at full speed, just to clarify.

I assume it's running Windows 8, 8.1, or 10. Open task manager and go to the network meter and see if it's actually using bandwidth or if it's some weird communication between the AP and the desktop. If you're still running 7 you'll probably have to download a network meter as the built in ones don't work the way you'd expect.

Looked at it, the send is no higher than 1.2mbps and the receive is less than 50 kbps. No programs can connect  (spotify, skype etc.) And chrome gives DNS probe errors, even though just before I restarted it is downloaded a 3GB CAD program effortlessly. Had to turn the PC back off to submit this reply because I was getting DNS probe errors on my phone as well (have to use it because if the pcs on nothing in the house gets internet)

... then how is it eating your bandwidth?

So by using my tablet as a network adapter using USB tethering I can get it connected, and it doesn't affect the rest of the network. What should I be looking for in Glasswire?

Problem was solved through flushing the DNS in CMD after releasing and renewing the ipconfig, followed by a netsh winsock reset command and restart of computer.

However, this is a problem that occurs so often with this pc, random "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET" errors and the like. Today it mutated into taking the internet away from everything else but for months on different network adapters (had a TP-Link one before this ASUS PCE-AC56) and different networks and cities and yet the problem perpetuates. I might make a separate thread on this, but does anyone know what might possible cause this issue?
