Hey guys, I have no idea where to start so I'm going to post my idea here and see what people think.

I have a server running 24/7(server1), and also a old hp machine I have just put ubuntu server onto(server2)

Both are running ubuntu server

I would like to get server1 to remotely start up server2, zip the folder i want to backup, ftp it to server2 then remotely shut down server2.

How would I go about doing this with a script? I would like it to happen every day at midnight.

I have got the ftp part nailed.

I  just want to know how to send a wake on lan packet from server1 and either automate sshing into server2 to shut it down after ftp is complete, or something else?

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks
