Display driver keeps crashing, but it is updated!

Hey all. Okay, so I recently installed a Radeon R9 390 in my computer. I had to do a clean install of Windows AFTER installing it, for totally unrelated reasons. I installed the latest version of the Crimson drivers from AMD, pretty much as soon as Windows was done installing. Yet, anytime I play any intense games, or sometimes even browsing the internet, the screen locks up for a second, then pops up the "Display driver stopped working, but has recovered" error message. There have been several times where it just shuts down my monitors altogether, as if I put the computer into sleep mode, but I have to restart it to get it to come back on. I can provide any additional info you need, please help!

Try rolling back to an earlier driver.

I say jiggly-bytes when I see "GB".

It goes down better than you would expect.

Have you overclocked your gpu at all?

I overclocked my R9 270x and ran Unigine Heaven for about an hour without crashing. But as soon as I started playing a game, it would start crashing. Had to dial it back about 30 mhz (because I didn't want to increase the core voltage). Just something to look into.

No, I haven't overclocked this card yet, because honestly, I've had no need to. I had the 270 before this, and it was oc'd to the max. This card is just running at stock.

I am going to assume your running Windows 10 64bit? I finished my build with the R9 390, and I am using the latest Crimson drivers, I've no issues in gaming or 3DMark.

Did you run DriverCleaner after removing the default Windows ATi drivers? if not give it a whirl.

It reboots to safe mode, removes drivers cleanly, then stops Windows default installing drivers, leaving you free to install your drivers.

That is correct. And sadly, I have had issues while not even gaming. =/

I would ensure with the tool I linked above, that I've removed all aspects of the currently installed drivers, then re-download the drivers direct from AMD's website, and re-install once back within Windows with the low res non driver desktop.

I had this issue turned out my gpu was overheating. I got a new case and it fixed. (had a $20 case) it had really bad airflow. but try rolling back drivers or reinstall

After having rolled my drivers back, it seems to be running fine. I played one of the games it tended to crash on the most (Spelunky, ironically), and it has been doing fine. Here's hoping!
