Hi, i have a ds 211j and a ds414 from synology. Just moved inn to a new house where i have ethernet cables running around in the house. The issue im having when i connect the nas direct in the wall, is that i dont get connected to my network. If i put a asus router between the nas and the ethernet wall outlet, everything works.

My setup is isp->tp-link switch->outlet->nas. This doesnt work

If i put the asus router between, isp->tp-link switch->outlet->asus router->nas, everything works

Why, and how to fix this?

If you plug the NAS into the outlet directly then it will fetch a public IP and get connected to your ISP's network, not your local one. It is probably configured to only allow local connections for security reasons, or maybe your client is configured to look for local connections and that's why it doesn't work.

Solution: Put it behind your router.

If I were you I'd probably just change it to this:

ISP -> Asus Router -> outlets -> NAS

Just add the switch in whichever room you want/need it in.

Hi, and thanks for the respons. I forgot to mention that the isp, is a router with wireless. But with only one ethernet output, thats Why the switch is placed there. Its a 24 port switch, with all the outlets in use. The asus router only has 4 outputs. So this will maybe work but its not the solution for me :-]

Does your ISP router have DHCP and NAT? If it doesn't then that is the problem. Your NAS will need to be behind a device that has that. Your switch doesn't and it seems like your ISP router doesn't have it either.
