There are only two positions you can place the cooler... parallel and not-parallel to the RAM.

 

You can also mount the fan a little higher so the ram fits under it.

 

What motherboard do you have? and how many ram sticks?

Here is the Dark Rock 3 mounted on the motherboard you have, non-parallel to the ram. This fits perfectly, using two ram sticks.

 

However, if you currently use, or plan to upgrade in the future to four ram sticks this is a problem due to the cooler overlapping one ram slot.

 

So you could mount the dark rock 3 like this:

Only thing i cant show you with this picture, is to place the fan (which is presented in push configuration (blowing air into the heat sink)) 

on the other side of the heat sink, in pull configuration (pulling air through the heat sink)

 

This way, there will be nothing overlapping any ram slots.
