Dual boot Mac on Windows?

megadarkwood

I have a windows 8 laptop and want to play around with Mac a little.

Instead of setting up a VM I want to dual boot. How do I do this?

All the guides I find online are outdated or how to dualboot windows on a mac.

Basically, you just need to partition part of one of your drives in partition editor or the BIOS. From there, you boot to your CD/usb that has Mac OS on it and select your new partition. Remember, Macs don't work with NTFS.

What do you mean by NTFS? And can I do it without a CD/USB? I don't have a DVD drive or a usb on hand.

New Technology File System - NTFS is the (new) standard format for windows partitions, which can not be read by macosx. And you will always need either a CD/DVD or a usb-thumbdrive if you want to install any kind of operating system.

You also have to check if your hardware is compatible with macosx, since it, as far as I know, only support intel processors.

Isent there some hacked ISO that can be installed on any hardware?

All Systems from apple have some sort of special chip onboard so macosx can be installed. There are indeed hacked iso-files which remove this lock, but it still won't run on not support hardware since there are no drivers available.

What about a VM. Could that work?

This entire thread is against Apple's License Agreement.  But of course no one actually cares that they're breaking the agreement that they made.

Of course. It's just an agreement./sarcasm

But seriously, this thread is against Apple's terms and agreements and the LinusTechTips CoC.

If you can find your laptop here then it would make your life ten times easier http://www.tonymacx86.com/home.php (btw I dual boot Windows on Mac on my desktop and I had to to partition half of the drive in NTFS and half of it in what i think was called Mac OS Extended Journaled. Also to get the Mac side working correctly I had to patch my bios which Is risky if you don't have a motherboard that has something like Asus' Bios flash back utility).

Corsair 350d, Intel 3570k @ 4.2 ghz, H100i, Caviar blue 500gb, Caviar Blue 1TB, Samsung EVO 850 Pro 256GB, EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 ACX 3.0, Corsair Vengeance 8gb,AX760i

 2013 Macbook Pro 15-inch
