Thanks, but that is the problem I face. It is not specified that is unbuffered :)

It's unbuffered. Look up the model name: KVR16E11/8: http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search/?partid=kvr16e11/8

So I am buying this mobo: Asus P9D-MV

The memory Type is specified as follows: DDR3 1600/1333 UDIMM with ECC

Can I use DIMM ECC RAM in this slot?

UDIMM just means unbuffered.

You MUST use an unbuffered ECC DIMM, you can NOT use any Registered ECC DIMM.

Which mean I can use a DIMM RAM stick even though asus specifies UDIMM?

It's not that it doesn't matter, it's that a UDIMM is specific whereas DIMM is generic. Think of DIMM as being LGA1150 and UDIMM as being Z97 (when referring to a motherboard as a whole, ignore that one refers to the socket and the other to the chipset). Both are the same UDIMM is just a specific version (and in this case -- an unbuffered version).

So a UDIMM port will work with DIMM and UDIMM RAM

There is no difference between UDIMM RAM and DIMM RAM. So as long as you buy unbuffered DIMMs, then it will work.

Here's a better example, all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares. All UDIMM modules are DIMMs but not all DIMMs are UDIMMs.

So can I can throw any kind of ECC RAM in because they are all DIMMS but I might be able to find some UDIMM ones? (sorry if I come accross as very dumb xD this just confuses me)

But aren't the UDIMMS the unbuffered ones?

http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/8GB-Kingston-ValueRAM-DDR3-1600-ECC-DIMM-CL11-Single_807754.html, will this RAM for example work with my mobo?

Yes, UDIMMs are simply unbuffered DIMMs.

And yes, that is unbuffered, it will work.

Thanks, but that is the problem I face. It is not specified that is unbuffered :)
