Experiment 002: Subtle Stripe

I know its not a build log, cause well I just wanted to build without the tedium of documenting everything I did haha. But here is my newest build Subtle Stripe.

Check out the B-Roll video here:                                                                               And the PCPart Picker documentation here: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/PqjcCJ

I always build computers based off of a case. If I find a new case that present a new challenge than I'll pursue a build in it. For this build I wanted to push the concept of refined subtlety. There are so many builds that present a sensory explosion to the viewer that it can be, at times, overwhelming. Especially if the builder has to live with it on a daily basis.

I started working with this build and utilized the stripe found on the south bridge cooling plate on the MSI Krait as the main accent for the computer. I love the white stripe since it reminds me of a "go-faster stripe" on cars. I did my best to present the stripe in as subtle, but effective way as possible. Here are some of the highlights I was focusing on in the build.

Piping:

I've been hard-lining for a while and I would say I am proficient with the PETG. This build, in particular, was one of the hardest hard-line projects that I've taken on in a while. Because of the size of the PC-O8 case, I had to be extremely precise with the location, size, and orientation of my runs. Also if there were any flaws in the pipe I was forced to redo the entire section because the imperfection could easily be seen from two angles (due to the dual panel design of the PC-O8). I ended up using more than 20 feet of tubing to get the runs I needed.

Underlighting:

This was a pretty unique challenge that I wanted to tackle, because I wasn't really playing with light. Instead I was messing with shadows and lumen diffusion. It was a really fun task to tackle, and I found some really cool materials that act really well as diffusers (hint: white printer paper is your friend).

Backplate:

I designed and got this custom cut. Greg (aka: PCPackrat) from TheModZoo helped me with the design and cut it on his laser cutter. I love the design and I think it adds a subtle focal point for the build that ties all the elements together.

Hope yall enjoy! And let me know if you have any ideas for future builds! My Experimental naming scheme goes into the triple digits so I have a lot of experiments left to do!

Cheers,

Baz
