$30 Craigslist Pc

So I was leaving my job and scouting craigslist on my phone like I normally do and there was an add for a gaming pc with no graphics card.  The poster stated the gpu went out and he didn't feel like buying a new one so he just wanted to get rid of it.  He stated the specs and an asrock motherboard with an i5 cpu and 16 gb of ram with A 850 watt corsair psu in a cm storm cooler master scout case for all of $30 usd.  He also said he would throw in a mechanical keyboard for $10.  I figured it had to be a typo and he must of meant to put in $300 but i called the number anyway because I was curious.  He answered the phone and said yes the prices where correct and asked if I was interested in the transaction.  His location was on the way home and I figured for $40 even for parts if it was real it would be totally worth it.  So I met the guy and he showed up with the pc and everything looked like the build in the picture so I gave him the money and came home.  The keyboard turned out to be a razer black widow with black cherry switches which is a great deal for $10 and a happy addition to my shop pc.  

 

After dinner I told my wife what I had purchased and got the normal speech on how I did not need any more computer crap and blah blah blah.  I went out to the shop and hooked it up to see what the cpu was because he could not tell me when I asked.  He just said he knew it was an i5.  To my astonishment the pc booted perfectly with the onboard video and I went into the bios to find it had a 3570k in it and I flipped my shit.  I turned it off and opened the side panel to investigate further and it also has a 90gb corsair force ssd and the 16 gb of ram are corsair dominators.  I showed my wife how much the cpu goes for online and she abruptly apologized to me and told me I did a good job.  Lol.  

 

I cleaned up everything and rerouted the cables and put the cpu cooler on it correctly (he had it on backwards).  Just installed a fresh os and a spare hd 7870 I had laying around and everything is running great.  Gonna see how much I can overclock this baby.  Sorry for the long post but I am so excited and never got this lucky for so cheap with computer parts on craigslist.  I am still almost in a state of shock.  Thanks for listening.

Just keeping this here as a sometimes people don't know what their stuff is worth, or they're really motivated to sell for any amount for urgent personal reasons.  Every now and then the same thing happens with guitars.  Actually, I'd imagine it could happen with any product, but I know of those two :D

When it cost the seller was roughly $0 to acquire, any amount is most likely a profit.

For $5, I got a classic gaming rig with a 450MHz Pentium III. For $20 I got a partially functioning Pentium 4 machine. For $60, I got a Power Mac G4 with two CPUs.

 

For $30, you got a complete machine with an Intel Core i5. My luck is trash.

I worded that poorly... I meant that there is some risk involved in selling stolen goods, and considerably more involved in getting hold of them yourself so I'm saying that effort would be worth more than $30, you'd think.

I honestly do not believe it to be stolen.  The 500gb hdd had files with his name in it that dated back roughly 2 years.  I know that does not mean anything concrete but the guy said he built it around that time with a buddy to play games with.  I got the impression someone got him to buy the parts and build it but he never understood or was invested in the idea of needing a gaming rig.  I am also in Savannah Georgia and his phone number was an Atlanta area code so perhaps he moved recently for work or something because he did have a nice car and decided he did not have time for it anymore.  Either way I am extremely happy.  I got the cpu to 4.9ghz so far and may try to push a bit more.  I am pretty sure I will never get this type of deal again.  i do not live in a high end enthusiast pc market and its unusual to find anything of relaveance on the Savannah craigslist postings.
