Computer Freezes when playing games.

Go to solution Solved by niccaa23,

maybe psu is dying.. i had similar issues on my old build.

I thought my harddrive was failing so i replaced it. then suddenly my hd just wouldn't load at all.

At this point i was in denial that something could be wrong with the power supply.

It wasnt until i overclocked my cpu/gpu i then learned it really was the psu.

(everything started to bottleneck) followed by the distinct smell of new/burning plastic then a POP!

surprisingly after I replaced the power supply nothing was damaged.

Now I learned my lesson to buy a QUALITY psu and not use the one that gets bundled with a cheap case.

Recently I get freezes when I play computer games, tested it with LoL(League of Legends), Dota 2, Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Dishonored. They seem to freeze around 5 mins into the game. I moved my connection to my integrated graphics (Intel HD 4400) and it seem to work well. Any idea what might cause this? I'm assuming this is my video card because of the stated reasons.

An i3 may be affecting performance. It can be a bottleneck.

But I ran games for the past 3-4 months and I never got freezes while I'm playing. It just happened recently so I don't think a bottleneck is the issue.

Yeah, an i3 being bottlenecked by an R7 370 is unlikely in the more CPU intensive scenarios, let alone games like the ones you mentioned. Do you get freezes elsewhere? Have you tried anything else that could be GPU intensive like video rendering with GPU acceleration?

Previously Trogdor8freebird

5800x | Asus x570 Pro Wifi (barely enough for 64GB apparently given it's 2133 and still crashes sometimes) | 64GB DDR4 | 3070 Ti 8GB | Love that whole weeb shit

I haven't tried video rendering since I don't really do video editing. But I tested it with playing the games I have (it freezes) and watching videos and browsing facebook for hours (not freezing).

Just about the time I inspected my case earlier and I find this abomination that was connected to my graphics card. I had to remove the graphics card because of this.

Also my PSU is bundled with the case so you're maybe right. About the molex thing that's I get with cheaping out on PSU no 6-pin power connector.

I hate to say it, but it looks like that big pickle in the sky wants your ass to stay on this planet, otherwise your rig would have burst into flames.

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

Apparently molex connectors are super bad. Noted.

It's not that they aren't, it's that you combined a decently power hungry GPU with a Molex adapter and a shitty PSU.

Decent GPU + Molex-6-pin power connector + Shitty PSU = Abomination. Noted.

I'm still new to this. Thanks for letting me know. :)
