20 minute and 20 second time limit on Lumix DMC-G7KS DSLM?

pbc561

Every time I start a video recording with this camera (Lumix DMC-G7KS DSLM?) it says there is 20 min, 20 sec remaining even though sd card is empty. shouldn't it be at least 30 min? How can I fix?

You get that 20 minute limit because you're recording video on a photo camera where:

  • The manufacturer has introduced an artificial video recording time limit for each shot.  This limit exists because in Europe, if a camera can record video continuously for more than a certain number of minutes, the camera has to be classified as a "video" camera and about 10% or so extra VAT is added to the cost.  So the manufacturer designed it so you cannot record for more than X number of minutes each time you press the "record" button, no matter the capacity of the memory card.
  • You can overcome this limit if you use an external recorder like an Atomos Ninja or Blackmagic Video Assist.
  • File system limit because FAT32 cannot handle files larger than 4GB.
