So some people might remember me from a little while back ago that i was going to go with an i7 4790k and a 970 but with tax return and some other stuff I could only afford a i5 6600k and a 960 =/.

I'm asking what is acceptable temps with this? I'm seeing some people are running it overclocked @ 4.5Ghz or 4.6Ghz with tempatures of like 70-80c... the website tho http://ark.intel.com/products/88191/Intel-Core-i5-6600K-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_90-GHz

TCASE 64°C

So am I missing something or? can it go higher than 64°C?

I'm using a ASUS Z170-A and a Hyper 212 EVO for cooling

running a THOR V2 Gaming case with stock fans and the stock fan config

x1 230mm in the front for an intake

x1 230mm on the side for an intake
x1 140mm at the rear for exhaust

x1 230mm up top for exhaust

The CPU Cooler is pointed up to push hot air up.

I wanted to overclock to at least 4.5 but could that be done with the 212 EVO or should I invest in a H100i?

Core Temp runs all the time thats why it's load temps are higher than hwidmontior's

~~~~~~~~~~
Look forward to some feedback <3 as always this community is a great help I keep coming back :D
Don't fall for the intel site - that temperature they report is not TJmax - the one you actually care about
Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?
If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.
So how hot should I go? or how hot is to hot? lol
Linus did a video on that I think, and as you might expect, the answer is "it depends".  Anything under about 80 is "safe", but most people shoot for 24/7 temps under 70, or even under 60 if they can.  You are perfectly fine right now and if you can keep it under 60 you'll still be perfect :)
Yeah he did I remember now and okies just making sure I don't break my new CPU lol :o
yeah honestly it's personal preference if you want to shoot for 50° or let it go up to like 80°.  Like I said, both would be "safe", but you might expect a longer lifespan keeping it cooler.  That said, I've never seen a CPU actually die from old age ever in my life, but it can happen in theory.
So overclock as much as you can within your own comfortable limits.  An H100 or something would help of course but is it necessary?  Not really unless you're getting "too hot"
