I want to upgrade my monitor setup, now that I have SLI 980Ti.

Currently I own a ROG SWIFT PG278Q: https://www.asus.com/Monitors/ROG_SWIFT_PG278Q/

But since I do a lot of video work, so do I want to upgrade to ROG SWIFT PG279Q: https://www.asus.com/us/Monitors/ROG-SWIFT-PG279Q/

The plan is to get 5 in the end, along with probably a 3rd 980Ti.

My question is, how much will I notice it, if I use the TN version as a left or right side monitor, until I can afford all 5?

No, I dont want a wide screen, since the plan is to have them in portrait mode.

Yes, 5x 1440p (7200x2560) at more then 60hz/fps is possible:

I speak my mind, sorry if thats a problem.

TN panels are more responsive with like 1-3ms of input lag whereas IPS look ALOT better and can be viewed from any angle. You wont get that shaded look if you look at it from an angle. Also unless you are a major call of duty gamer you wont need 1-3ms of input lag. An IPS is usually 5-20 ms so make sure you get one with the lower ms input lag. But personally if you want a beautiful image and your a casual gamer IPS is the way to go.

At 165fps so does each image last 6ms and with 3/5 monitors, so wont I hit that in any modern game.

But its still a number to aim for. If its faster then 6ms or 10ms (100fps) for that matter, so should I not notice it.

And since the ROG SWIFT PG279Q is rated at 4ms, so should I be good.

I think it refers to the moment you click on the mouse to when you actually see the object on the screen now its not seconds its milliseconds so dont confuse that part. I dont think you will notice it and if youre getting the ROG Swift you wont notice it at all i think that is like 4ms and its and IPS panel. Its one of the best if not the best 27 inch monitor IPS on the market.

Guess I will need to read up on some test, to see if the 1ms and 4ms is accurate.

After that, then it comes down to colour shift, as the TN dont have as good viewing angles. Plus colour difference to the IPS of course.

Hmm, wonder if the TN might be better used as a centre monitor instead, as the IPS dont suffer from the same problem.
