What is this cable?

its a usb to 3.5 mil adaptor.

 

it appears to have no DAC and i have heard of no-one putting analog audio over a big usb plug. and it appears to be vaguely standardised.

 

Any ideas how one actually uses this?

its a scam product.

EDIT: ipod nano's used to (not sure if they still do) connect to usb trough one of those, but i wouldnt let this thing anywhere near my nano because one flipped wire, and we have the usb type C VS chromebook review that popped up a while back...

theres someone out there that reviews usb type c cables, and one of them was bodged up that bad it fried his chromebook.

which well... this cable has a lot of potential to do as well.

no thats madness. if so you could touch the earth live and neutral so easily because of the male plug. and if youve ever charged your laptop or phone through your jack you will realise it just melts the inside of the device. (if you have apple care and want a new laptop put phantom power through your jack they dont understand how it happens so they say fault will apple device and replace it)

Ahh, thanks I've been looking for one of these cables to supercharge my audio ports for the extra bass. Gotta love that extra OONCE OONCE.

 

Jokes aside, as other have said, definitely a scam product with no uses other than to kill peoples hardware, that's if there's actually any wires in it at all :D

ipod shuffle charges with a 3.5mm jack...
