Hey Guys,

Its me again :D

I noticed quite the heat buildup in my system (nothing critical, but still the fan noise is not very apprecheated at all :D).

I thought of two ways to tnagle this problem:

A: reducing max. Load on CPU&GPU to 80-90%

B: pause folding periodically (like 55min full power, 5min pause 55min power)

 

I think both ways would make it easyier for the casefans to blow the hot air out of the case, but i have no idea/found nothing on google/ found nothing in F@H settings that helps me, so i ask you :D

I hope someone will have the right idea,

Don't bother with it. Either of those (espeically second) will drastically reduce your ppd.

Just let it run.

What are your temps anyways?

A: For the GPU, you straight up can't. It's almost like a bit: either all out full load, or no load at all, with no stage in-between. For the CPU, the same applies on a per core basis, though you can just use some of the core.

B: yeah, it would work for the first few minutes after the pause. But then it would just quickly get heaten right back to where it was. Not very viable as a method.....

 

So what can you do?

  • On the CPU side, you can just use, say, half of the cores. Or just one core. Or, just like you overclock CPUs, you can can undervolt them to reduce heat generation.
  • On the GPU.... well, all you can do is try to throttle it's performance. Using overclocking software (or Bios modding, if you are fancy), you can reduce the maximum power draw of the card. Less power drawn = less heat. Do note that in order to do that, the card will skip out on GPUBoost (and it's AMD equivalent, whatever the name is) to meet the demand, which in turn would cause the card to fold slower.

63°C GPU

44° inside case

 

the problem is with the graphicscards fans spinning at 2540 RPM to hold the temp...

hmm... yep turning the graphics down might help... *dumb* :D

Still, I'd just let those temps rise a bit by setting up a custom fan curve, rather than slowing them down. 60s is pretty chilly, I have mine at 80s usually.

Exactly. Let it heat up a bit more to reduce noise. You don't need to cool THAT much (though that's never a bad thing).
