SSD Noise??

Go to solution Solved by annonymous_killer,

Weirdly enough it turn out to be something to do with the cpu as I tried taking off the heat sink, resitting the cpu changing the thermal paste and then putting the heat sink back on and that seemed to work as the noise is gone now

HI

I built my first PC at Christmas and everything was working perfectly until about a week ago.

for some reason I keep hearing a kind of scratching noise when I move the mouse or go down the page, at first I thought it must have been the HDD so left it for a day or 2 but the noise is still here and is getting quite annoying. I just opened the case to try and find out what was making the noise and it seemed to be coming from the SSD which is mounted directly behind the CPU as i have the define R4 case. the CPU I have is the AMD 8350 however I dont see why that would make any noise.

could anybody please tell me what the problem is here.

any help will be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like coil whine...other than the fact that it's coming from behind your motherboard....

Maybe the SSD is a bit loose and it's vibrating?

Yea... no. Unless you don't have it properly attached it is literally impossible that the SSD would be making noise you could hear.

You would hear light bulbs before the SSD.

No ... it most likely the vram or your SSD is physically hitting something due to vibration in the case? I would take off back/front panel and try to listen where is coming from. Try unplugging your ssd to see if it sound is still present. (Don't do it if you any data using it like OS drive) this is ghetto way to see which component is causing your problem. In the end you might find out is not your ssd or you cpu.
