Stress test

Go to solution Solved by Simon771,

Prime95 is not best idea to use for stress testing.

Just use Aida64 for CPU and let it run for few hours. If it will run at 100% load for 3 hours, I guess you can say that your CPU is stable.

For GPU, I would use heaven/valley benchmark and just let it run for like 1 hour. Temps that you will get after 1 hour, are probbably same temps that you would get after 5 hours. Maybe 1-3°C more because air in your room and case would get hotter, but that's not so importnant.

I would avoid Prime95 for stress testing. I can't say realy why, but few members on forum advised not to use it and they all recomded Aida64. And if I'm not mistaken Linus team is also using that tool.

Hi,

I am using Aida64 and wanted to stress test my pc but I don't know what options I should enable and how long for each of them. Can you guys tell me what I should do?

The options are: Stress CPU, Stress FPU, Stress cache, Stress system meomory, Stress local disks, stress GPU

Thanks!

If you want to stress test the CPU, chose Stress CPU.

If you want Memory, chose stress memory

if you want GPU, chose GPU.

How long?

As long as you can.

If you have a high OC i'd say long,

for CPU at least 2-5hours

for memory i would actually use memtest instead

GPU around an hour probably. But i'd use Valley/heaven instead.

I use Prime95 to test the CPU. 1-2 hours are enough.

For Memory i use Memtest. Take several hours to finish.

For GPU i use FS, Valley and Heaven

And?

Temps the CPU didnt reach after an hour, it will never reach.

100% utilization? I thought that's bad

well if CPU and clock are okay, there shouldn't be any problem with running at 100% load for few hours.

I tested my i7 4790 (at stock ofc.) for over night on 100% load. No harm was done as far as I can tell.

What should the temps be? What do you mean by the clocks are right? And u can let the stress test on for 12 hours?

don't use aida...

CPU :

P95 26.6 1344k

MEM:

P95 800K or memtest

GPU:
Firestrike (i dont like valley or heaven for stress testing as firestrike crashes at a lower oc)

use games as well they are the best for gpu as some games will crash an oc which is lower than firestrike so to find your 24/7 oc use games.

well it depends on your CPU, but usually under 70°C is perfectly fine. 80 might still be okay (depends on your CPU). Anything more than that, you should start to worry about it.

About clocks, I ment if you overclocked CPU. In case you didn't, you should be able to run at 100% load with no problem. CPU stressing is usually used to test if your overclock is okay and stable.

Yes I did use stress testing for 12 hours and with my Kraken X31, it never went over 60°C. So that's perfectly fine for me.

But keep in mind that those stress tests, will stress your CPU more than any games, so if you can run 3 hours on stress test, you can run games 24/7.

May I ask why you don't like Aida64 stress test?

When I was using Prime95, whole PC was laggaing like crap. With Aida64 I was still able to do something (like browsing web etc.) and it was also 100% load.

I also used Intel Extreme Tuning Utility to stress test my CPU. Also seems like a good and safe tool. Afterall, Intel released it, so it would be kinda ironic if they would destroy CPUs with that program xD

So I don't need a cpu  stress test since it isn't overclock

Well that might be true, but what game will use your CPU like p95?

I'm not tech geek and don't know anything about that, but other members on forum said that prime95 is hurting your CPU like no other app, so I just used Aida and that intel software because they both use 100% CPU load and other members recommended that.

But what's going on behind those tests, it beyond my knowdlege.

Why did you want to stress your CPU in the first place?

If you buy used CPU from someone else, you should stress test it to see if it's running stable and as it should.

If you are overclocking, you stress test to see if it's stable or if you need to decrease your OC a bit.

But if you bought brand new CPU, I  don't see reason to stress test since it should works perfectly.

Basicly you run stress test to see if your system is stable. Do you want to know if your PC can handle everything? stress test it, otherwise leave it alone :)

ignore those idiots. they are wrong. use manual voltage (if your mobo has it) and 26.6 version and you will be fine...

i am annoyed by the bigots who say aida is what you should use .. i disagree as it does not stress cpu enough

no game stresses it as much as p95 but i like my cpu to be stable, and stable in my mind is 1 hour of 1344k (crashes unstable oc within minutes)

Well when I got my brand new CPU I did stress test it for like 10 hours like I said before. Did that just to test that everything is okay, and since then I didn't realy stress it for that reason.

I did few tests to see how much power does my system get from wall when everything is running at 100% load but that's it.
