Upgrading RAM

Go to solution Solved by Naeaes,

Sounds like the repair guy knew that the unit has a 32-bit operating system. Those can only utilize 4GB of memory (DRAM and VRAM combined). If that's the case, it'd be useless to install 6GB. Also if the sticks aren't identical (by the sound of it, you're planning on using 2GB and 4GB sticks) it's more than likely that it won't run in dual channel. Such a low-end PC could really use the benefits of dual channel. But all in all, this is just speculation. The laptop has a pretty puny Pentium for a processor. I personally find it hard to believe, it would ever utilize such a hefty amount of RAM anyway. If I were you, I'd go with dual channel 4GB.

BTW, HP laptops are pretty picky about RAM. You should only buy manufacturer-recommended and known-good sticks from a reputable retailer. Just so you can return them if/when they won't work together.

I own a HP 15-d009tu with 4th gen PQC & 2GB DDR3 RAM 1333MHZ but I wish to upgrade it to 6gb of RAM, when I contacted a near by repair shop he told even if I upgrade RAM to 6gb my system won't use more than 4 GB anyway and there is no requirement. So do tell me whether I should opt for 4gb or 6gb configuration (total RAM, Including the 2 GB)
