2000 EUR (~2200 USD) Allround-Build?

Guest 4D 61 72 63 6F

Dear Community,

long time LTT-lurker here. The last PC i built is around 4 years old and back then it was already a low-mid budget AMD-themed system. So this time, i want something way more powerful.

What will i be doing with it?

This machine will be mainly used for gaming and software development (* more on that later) and the usual office stuff. I would love to play all current games and some/most of the upcoming games with no worries. No video editing or content creation.

Budget and what it should include

This time, my budget is way higher with 2000€ (~2200 USD), living in Europe. I would love to have an awesome allround-system for the above mentioned daily use.

While a 24" 144hz G-Sync monitor should be included in the 2000€ budget for gaming, i do not need an OS, a SSD/HDD or other peripherals. Right now, i'm using a 24" Samsung SyncMaster monitor i would like to use in a dual-monitor setup with a 144hz G-Sync monitor.

My part list so far

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/DHXQTW
Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/DHXQTW/by_merchant/

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($378.98 @ OutletPC)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i GTX 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($103.69 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VIII HERO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($219.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory  ($104.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Superclocked+ ACX 2.0+ Video Card  ($649.99 @ Amazon)
Case: Corsair 750D ATX Full Tower Case  ($139.99 @ B&H)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($65.98 @ Newegg)
Case Fan: Noctua NF-F12 PWM 55.0 CFM 120mm  Fan  ($19.58 @ OutletPC)
Case Fan: Noctua NF-F12 PWM 55.0 CFM 120mm  Fan  ($19.58 @ OutletPC)
Monitor: Asus VG248QE 144Hz 24.0" Monitor  ($248.00 @ Amazon)
Total: $1950.77 (=~1750€ -> 250€ below budget)

I used the US-version as some items where not showing price tags in my area. To be perfectly honest, by picking out the parts i was mainly influenced by LTT, online ratings and some benchmarks. Sometimes, i just added items that were within the budget and had good ratings and/or benchmarks. That said, i'm completely open for suggestions. I added the liquid cooling system as i would love to do some overclocking. Driven by my main intention "a system where i don't have to worry about a long time", i added the latest i7 and the next best video card below the Titan X.

Help me!
So, that said, i would love to hear suggestions. Is the monitor working in a dual-monitor setup (one g-sync, one not?). Do you see some saving potentials without cutting down a lot of the stuff due to "overkill for your daily use" or do you even see an upgrade that is within the budget. Worth to consider: Lately, i'm getting more and more into machine learning algorithms while developing software. I know, the "real machine learning stuff" is mostly done by distributed computing on EC2's and often even on GPU's rather than CPU's, but having 2 extra cores (i7-5820K) might be worth to consider as well for local development and testing to cut down some calculation times.

I'm looking forward to hear from you guys.

Why do you not have any storage in your build?

Also, the 5820k is slightly more expensive and delivers better performance.

I will re-use my current SSD and HDD. I also have an official windows licence, so this is also not needed.

As i still have 250€ of budget left, i have the option to upgrade to a 5820k. Do you have a dedicated benchmark that compares those two processors? How can they be compared regarding to overclocking?

Thanks in general for the advice!

Thanks, shadowbyte. So within this budget, you would definitely opt for the 5820K over the 6700K. Sounds reasonable with this performance review.
