Divison Beta is a mess

Hey guys,

Just wondering what your experiences are with trying to play this game.

Some of the issues I'm going through:

At first it would freeze my entire computer during launch - look online and saw that you can "Run in Compatibility Mode" under the local files for the game through the properties menu.

That, at least, let me launch - watch the tutorial, and even customize my character.

Now I get to the first cutscene for the game (helicopter injured, whatever) - but am freezing there.

I have basically given up on trying to play it at this point - so hopefully you guys have some good advice.

Thanks!

Honestly the beta hasnt given me one issue

There was some I believe minor SLI visual bugs (lighting flicker when doing into a new area and another weird one I cant discribe) but those are the only 2 issues ive had

And honestly you are the 1st person ive heard with any major issues

Well, it's all over the internet - thus how I found a fix to one of the first issues I was having.

Its been pretty decent for me, however I have noticed some visual/texture errors where everything appears to look like its running at low res. Also I found a wall where you can't "cover" behind which almost killed me!

Check out min 2.54 where I encountered "non-cover" wall

To be frank with you pretty much any "public beta session" these days is server testing at best, a demo under another name at worse.

That's not what it's supposed to be though. Maybe Ubisoft is treating it like a beta?

No its not what its supposed to be but its what it is these days and id be surprised to be honest with you, maybe a few minor bug fixes here and there (like the above mentioned wall issue) but dont expect any major changes.

Oh, I guess the definition of "beta" release is different in the gaming world. I've been out of the loop for a while but I assumed they used the same release cycles as other software developers. Either way, hopefully people are being good "beta testers" and reporting bugs and such so they can get them patched. :)

It used to be what you describe, but ya as of late its really just been a glorified timed demo session with the added benefit of seeing how the servers cope with load.

Generally speaking the only "real" beta sessions these days are closed betas.

That's depressing to hear, I guess that explains why so many games have major patches released so shortly after launch.

I dunno if you played The division beta but I can also tell you its extremely restrictive on what it currently lets you do, both in terms of places you can go and systems within the game so if it is a real beta test..its a bad one lol.

Some games still honor a true beta experience where users input is taken into account and bugs are subsequently fixed, but, generally speaking, you're right - they generally serve more as a demo in todays time.

Battlefront comes to mind, in more recent AAA releases.

Oh ya no doubt some so alot of early access games of course still honor them but ya most AAA games its not the case anymore

Beta didn't gave me any issues but I guess that's because I was playing another great game (black desert) instead of that ubishit game.

Not a single problem, performance wise.  Actually kind of impressed at how well it ran for what it did.  Gorgeous game that got very boring really quickly.

some issues at launch where my character would refuse to load and what not. lots of disconnects due to server overloads right at the launch. however the character problems were resolved when i clear my division games folder where it stored my cbt character profile.

so on day 2 etc there wasn't much problems. sometimes the server would experience delays probably due to load.
there were some fps dips here and there however for some reason playing on ultra at 1080 compared to low at 1080 net me a better experience.
30-45fps on ultra compared to 120fps on low. i get fps drops to 40ish sometimes on low so the experience was really jarring.

on ultra settings my 380 could maintain a more constant framerate with less fps drops. (i get the feeling my potato i7 965 is probably causing the fps drops. i get usage spikes up to 75-80% once in awhile while the game hovers at 50% usage)

lots of eye candy on ultra settings. the game looks really good for what it is. its a beta, and before anyone says that just because its a beta they are allowed to get anyway with it. i personally did not notice much of game breaking bugs and what not. i did see a few graphical glitches like twice. most of the issues i encountered were probably server related-wise. optimisation wise idk, 40fps during the snowstorms on my 380 without proper drivers. so i think its pretty ok.

now, gameplay wise. off the bat,

if the concept of the game doesn't appeal to you, doesn't mean its shit. you can find quite a lot of things to dislike about it but it doesn't mean its shit. its just clearly not meant for you. Personally yes i find it repetitive too, but i keep in mind that there's a lot of the game yet to be made available to me. From what the game shows, its promising but we will have to wait till the full release to see if ubisoft decides to do some dick move.
Its an mmorpg, it feels like a grindfest / constantly doing the same thing again and again.
doesn't feel realistic if you have bullet sponge humans as enemies.
etc etc

Well as an mmo player, theres always a certain amount of grinding and depending on the type of game it can be a shit load or very little. (i'm personally someone who prefers the grind compared to being led around questing)
you get bored of the beta so easily but the beta is probably only 10% of the game. they didn't even unlock the security wing, only 20% of the medical and tech wing is available.
in your skill tree, talents and perks are still locked.
equipment mods are not available as well (not weapon mods)

crafting is also not available.

bullet sponge human enemies admittedly don't do well for immersion but its fine by me, however its still an rpg system, if it takes you 2-3 magazines to down someone you are doing it wrong. (you can pretty much exclude bosses from this)

they improved quite a bit from cbt to obt but i still see people ranting about the rogue system being broken, however i find it good. if you remove it no one will go into the dz for loot anymore. you will have people killing others everywhere. my only suggestion would be that your first shot that makes you rouge, the 20s timer before you killed someone. Make it so that the tick doesn't stop when others are shooting you (and you don't shoot back). IMO this will solve so many problems. you have a chance to run away if you accidentally shot someone, instead of pretty much ending up dead since once they hit you you timer doesn't tick.

if you are not an mmo type of guy, this game will probably not interest you and that's ok.

just my 2cents. from someone with 30 hours in cbt and 30+hours in obt.
The game is pretty good, not perfect but I can definitely see how it will be easily repetitive, however we should all keep in mind that a majority of the content is locked so saying the game is shit because the beta is not showing more is quite frankly immature and biased.
So, just wait till the game is out.

I rather enjoyed the beta, and I jumped in without any real prior knowledge of the game. I haven't really kept up with Ubisofts' upcoming titles.

I had no framerate issues, even in snow storms and I didn't find the game play all that repetitive, just limited since they locked out a lot of features. Definitely love the atmosphere of a dead city in winter. Didn't experience any bugs or crashes either,  which surprised me.

I really enjoyed the Dark Zone idea and I think with a group of friends to back you up it will be better.

All in all, not bad. Hat tip to Ubisoft so far for not completely cocking it up.
