Friend's PC Build

Hi everybody!

 

My friend is looking to build a new gaming rig for playing mainly Battlefield 4 when it comes out but will also be playing some mmos.

 

His budget is $1400

 

We put together these parts.  Tell me what you guys think.

Needs a Hyper 212 Evo, and for the price of that 770 you can buy two 7950s and run them in crossfire

Honestly, even for just your friend's OS install, I'd recommend higher than 32GB. You're going to lose some of that because of how manufacturers refer to the "gigabyte" and I think that he'll find himself feeling a little cramped if he can't access his C: drive at all. Save up the extra 60 bucks and pick up a Kingston HyperX 120GB 3K. He won't regret it.

I might not recommend going strait to crossfire, but I would suggest going down to a 2GB 770 instead of a 4GB. The graphics processor is going to be a bottleneck before you start needing an extra couple gigs of VRAM. I've spent a very long time looking into this exact issue. Use that extra money on a bigger SSD

The system requirements for Battlefield 4 recommend 3 gb of graphics memory.  Would a 2gb card still be able to keep up?

I have a feeling that we will find that to be an exaggerated requirement (that is as long as you're running a 1920x1200 or lower screen resolution). But to be clear, I haven't ran it on my computer so I can only speculate. I have some 2GB cards in my system, and if I can't run it on max when it comes out, I will be VERY surprised.

I changed your SSD to a 120GB and your hard drive to a Caviar Blue. I highly suggest waiting for AMD's new cards or getting the crossfire 7950s.

Maybe not--I wouldn't be surprised if BF4 used more than 3GB vram at 1080p.

Crossfire ready. Replace the H100i fans with the Arctic F12's and the case fans with the SilenX fans.
