Ok so this is my first post so go easy on me,

At the moment and well for about 3 years I've been using an Amd Fx 8320 @ 4.5Ghz , Gigabyte ud5 and from what I've read for everyday use and moderate gaming I.E ( Moba's, Mmorpgs) that i won't see any real world boost in performance aside from a gain of 2-5 fps in games and maybe quicker Os loading, so my main concern is, would it actually be worth spending $350-500 on a platform change to skylake or would i be better suited for the next few years until the Am3+ is more of a legacy socket

I'd upgrade if the CPU is currently holding you back in games and wait otherwise (aka stick with what you have), since there is no reason to upgrade until the chip affects your fps

I'd say wait for Zen and Icelake - modern games use 8 threads so you won't notice a big difference.

eh, honestly i'd say just wait on what zen brings. games are starting to utilize more and more threads, so your FX chip may actually become more applicable in the near future than it's been in the 3 past years.

YEP - some modern games are showing the 8350 within spitting distance of i5s.

Yup just stick where you are for moment. What GPU are you using? Maybe better to dump those $$$ on a GPU. Also are you running a SSD ?

honestly, once you overclock until it hertz (until it megahertz) the FX series does quite well.

Uhm yes sorry about the specs being limited, My current gpu is a Nvidia 970 reference runs at around 1300-1400mhz, im only running 8gb of G.skill at 2400mhz, and i have 2 samsung evo 840 240gb and then a standard 1tb WD, i mainly play league of legends, wow a few Big aaa titles like far cry fallout, and atm my setup includes 2 monitors 1 at 2560x1080 and another at 1920x1080 extended desktop and in the basic games i seen frames of up (80 in raids - 200 in lol ) but in the more demanding titles such as far cry TW3 i noticed some serious fps drops and my average fps is just around 60 and im using the nvidia settings as much as i can unless i turn them down, was just curious with newer games coming and considering how old the Fx series is now

Oh and my power supply is a cx750m

And thank you all for prompt informational responses
