Am3+ socket issues

Hi guys wondering if you know.

I recently bought a mobo on ebay and it has arrived without the top half of the am3 socket (the bit with the lever and slider).  Is there a way to replace it? Or is it not entirely needed? The board is for my friend and he won't fiddle with it.  Will the cooler still make contact without this part?

can you post a picture so we know exactly what you mean?

He's talking about the CPU "lid", I'm assuming. (not really a lid on AMD CPU's)

 

You can probably CAREFULLY mount the cooler atop to keep it fixed, but I'd probably pick one up.

Yes that's what I mean.  I was worried that without the lid it would sit lower and nit contact the cooler.
