Start by reading forum threads, watch and learn from Linus' videos :D. I would look at what type of cooler I have and what temperatures I currently have before proceeding to the step below. 

 

In short though, I would start with learning about XMP profile, the base clock multiplier, each core's clock speed and how that makes a difference... and I would also look at your memory speed in case that needs a boost to push the clock speed further. 

 

Very last thing I would look at is voltage cause you don't want to tamper with that unless you know what you're doing.
