comp not booting with gpu.

My Laptop will not boot with the discreet GPU active. Nor will it boot with built in display. it does boot but with integrated graphics. am i not mistaken on thinking this is a gpu problem?

Did you try installing the drivers for the GPU before hooking it up?

It's not an upgrade. worked fine but all of a sudden the screen turned black and did not work.

About the only thing that causes that is a bricked GPU. The only way to know for sure is to put it in a different computer and see if you get anything. If not, you'll need to RMA it if it's still within warranty.
