Building a new Gaming desktop

Bretticus

Hi everybody

I am currently looking at building myself a desktop to replace my laptop as i dont need a portable gaming machine anymore and what i need portable computing for my current laptop is more than powerful enough. So ive been looking around i dont have much money to buy a machine and this is what i am thinking of doing.

1. Buy this refurbished PC i found on ebay

Zoostorm i7-3770, 2TB HDD, 16GB RAM, DVD+RW, No OS
£299.99
(Dont know if its a good price or not)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262284454307

2. New PSU as it only has a 250W PSU

I am looking at this one from ebuyer
EVGA 600W White 80+ Power Supply
£39.99
http://www.ebuyer.com/716703-evga-600w-white-80-power-supply-100-w1-0600-k3

3. Getting a GPU for it as it doesnt have one.
I have been looking at
Gigabyte GTX 950 Windforce2X 2GB GDDR5
£126.99
http://www.ebuyer.com/720986-gigabyte-gtx-950-windforce2x-2gb-gddr5-dual-link-dvi-hdmi-displayport-pci-e-graphics-gv-n950wf2oc-2gd

or

Zotac GTX 960 4GB GDDR5 DVI HDMI 3 x DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card
£159.99
http://www.ebuyer.com/728642-zotac-gtx-960-4gb-gddr5-dvi-hdmi-3-x-displayport-pci-e-graphics-zt-90311-10m

trying to keep it under £500 total but cheaper is better it will take a long while to save up that money aswell

So what does everybody think to this
is it a good build?
is it good value?
how will it perform at gaming?

Please let me know

Thanks everybody

Ok I would go for a less powerful psu 500w would be safe and that computer does not have an OS so unless you like Linux you will need to buy a copy of windows

I have an Anet A8 as my project printer and a i3 MK3 for when I want things to work.

I extrude my own filament and haven't saved a penny yet.

My PC:

Spoiler

CPU: Intel i7 8700k

Motherboard: MSI Z370-A Pro

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V (2x8GB) DDR4-3200

GPU: GTX 1070 Founders Edition (OC'd)

Storage: 2x 2TB Seagate 5400RPM, 128GB ADATA SSD

Power Supply: EVGA Supernova 750w  B2

Cooling: Noctua NH-D15. 3 Intake Fans, 2 Outtake

Case: Fractal Design Define R6

Get a R9 380 4GB and a XFX TS power supply, the EVGA 600W isn't that good.

Do you know what kind of hard drive?

That CPU is still plenty good for quite a while. Many people are even still clinging onto their Sandy Bridge chips and seeing great results with them.

Good plan going for a new PSU. Decent choice, not really any problems there. You could get away with less wattage though. 500w should be plenty.

Would you consider an AMD GPU? R9 380 should be in your price point and is comparable to a GTX 960.

it is a pretty good cpu not the best but it could run an R9 390. And if you overclock it I will never have a problem

Actually the PSU isn't that good for overclocking, quite basic. Would recommend something from here:

Its not loading for me but i have just been looking at this power supply

Corsair VS Series 550 Watt VS550 Power Supply

http://www.ebuyer.com/702009-corsair-vs-series-550-watt-vs550-power-supply-cp-9020097-uk

for the GPU ive had a quick look and from what i can find it looks like it would be cheaper to get the Nvidia 960 than get a R9 380 only 1 i saw was cheaper and it was only a few pound cheaper the rest were more expensive

Guys, you cannot overclock an i7-3770. Even so it's a really powerful CPU, more than enoughto run any current video card.
