Hi - I've just purchased the PC 363d headset but I've a couple of questions - can anyone help?

When i engage the dolby setting, the sound goes quite 'muddy'.  not nearly as crisp as without it on.

also, what's the point of being able to set the headset to 5.1 and 7.1 using the windows icon when the Dolby setting isn't on?

i.e. Isn't the headset in normal stereo mode unless you engage dolby on the soundcard?

Thanks!

Any software that messes with the sound to make it "3d" or whatever will just make the music sound bad.

X.1 sound cards more or less do the same thing, just leave it alone with no Dolby or software junk enabled.

That's frustrating to hear - the reason i bought these was to get better surround sound using the Dolby capabilities!

Well a little research (or asking us before you purchased them) would let you know that all of that stuff is just a gimmick. If you want surround sound you either need to pony up for an actual surround sound, or you need to buy the right pair of headphones.

Check out the ad700x or 558's.

At the $200 price point pick up the ad900x

Other than that it's just a waste of money, there's no getting around it with just software.

Thanks for the advice - not too late to return the 363ds if needed!

Would i also need a decent soundcard to get the most of the ad900x's rather than use motherboard sound?  I have an Asus P8Z77-V using Realtek HD audio manager

Return them if you can.

No, sound cards are more of the same. Your onboard sound will be able to power the AD900x's no problem.

If you are looking to upgrade, purchase a proper amp.

You can look at the fiio E10, or the Objective2 amp. The o2 will sound better, but the fiio is cheap, and is better than any sound card you would buy. Stay far away from them.

Second everything Mr. Mayflower has said thus far. You shouldn't need anything other than on board audio unless you get static, pops, EM interference, etc.

  • 10 months later...

You don't need surround headsets or anything to get surround. Most games have the option in audio to toggle (like CS:GO as a headphones option) that pretty much gives you virtual surround in a stereo headset. The wider the soundstage of the headphones, the more precise it will be.

What's with all the thread necros lately?

Yo, I got the 363 because I could not find the 360. And I did not know about the modmics. Do you think they will benefit from the fiio e10 if I have an asus sabertooth mobo, which claims to have good audio?

No, don't bother getting more hardware unless you want a physical volume knob. Even then, a Syba DAC would be cheaper and also has a Mic port.

Buy the SE215, then try on the JHAudio's Roxanne (for warmer sound), or the Fitear (more neutral). Big chance you'd still crave for them. Although the price difference is pretty steep, making them not really a realistic upgrade....:)

I have so many various tips..... If you send me your pair, there's a high likelyhood you wont be getting them back.

Even their universal ones, used for demo purposes, sounds great. Those are the ones I've tried. I imagine other people's custom would poke my ear canals in awkward ways....
