Can you elaborate? What does that mean? Will I see any noticeable difference?

If you watch a 4K video at 1080p, the benefits you'll notice are the following:

  • Fewer compression artifacts due to proportionally higher bitrate than 1080p
  • Very slightly better fine detail (less shimmering on sharp edges / etc) due to downsampling and the filtering involved

Beyond that... Nothing much, really.

Just a general question for a curious PC user :D my monitor is a 1080p monitor. I'm curious, if I watched a video in 4K, would it only display 1080p or would there be some benefits to watching at 4K on this monitor? :P

It would be displayed in 1080, at higher bitrate, or a over sized video.

It's common sense, is it not? There would be no benefit from this. It'll just get scaled down to your native res.

That's all I wanted to know, thank you :)

If it were common sense, there wouldn't be any need for there to be videos explaining it.

Well, there's lots of people that lack it, you seem to be one of them.

Well that was rude and unnecessary. I assure you, it's not a common sense question. If you wish to be ignorant and arrogant online, be my guest, however, I really don't want to bother with people like that :)
