Hey guys,

Just gave a quick question for you all.

If I install 16GB of RAM into my video editing system, would it be best to get 2x 8GB or 4x 4GB of DDR3 dual channel memory?

2x8GB so you can add more.

Thanks guys, although I was wondering, given that it's dual channel memory, what would give me the best performance. I assume 2x 8GB would give me max performance but wasn't sure.

in the real world.

dual channel memory runs 1-3% faster

1-3% could also be margin of error.

so in reality your never gonna notice the difference between single or dual channel.

Would have chimed in but eh.

@ProKoN, Except that he is video editing. I believe that makes a difference, especially if it is HD video.

through my testing

zero difference in rendering time using sony vegas 10.  1.5GB file rendered to mp4. 1080p. both single and dual channel rendered in the same time. both took appx. 88 minutes

give er a try.

Im not sure about x264 encoding.. never tried.

dont get me wrong.

dual channel is the way to go .

2x8gb your done...done

Through my testing, i have basically had identical results as this review. sure its ddr2 they are testing, but i have had same results with ddr3. have a look at all their results..compelling really. I always thought dual channel memory had significant advantage over single channel, turns out it doesnt. run some tests guys..
