In most situations it's not worth paying the extra money for an X counterpart, especially when you're not going all in in the first place ex. 390x.. I'd recommend picking up a Sapphire R9 380 and overclocking it to reach similar performance of the R9 380x. Most people seem to prefer Sapphires and their cooling systems are nice as well as their aesthetics. I'd probably only recommend Sapphire unless you got a good deal elsewhere.

I agree with the people above, just overclocking the R9 380 to match the X version.

 

I'm getting the R9 380 soon from MSI (their 4G GAMING model).

The 380X is 10% faster and yes, it is worth it.

i have an r9 380x and it's the sapphire one.  The only reason i ended up choosing this over the normal 380 was becasue there was a deal and it was cheaper to do so.  and this might be biased but i do really like the sapphire one, it has a nice backplate and the fans dont even turn on till a certain temperature.

The R9 380 is a slightly cut down tonga chip (1792 stream processors) where as the 380X is a fully fledged tonga chip (2048 stream processors) which represent a nearly 15% increase in true GPU throughput which will result in 8 to 12% performance increase depending on the application.

+10% more or less...for 30$-40$?...might be well worth it!

But R9 380 have 2GB VRAM, while R9 380X have 4GB.

based on benchmarks it looks like 380X is around 10% better.

And like everyone is saying that you can overclock 380 to be like 380X ... well you can also overlock 380X.

If you can pay for 380X I think it might be worth it just because 2x more VRAM.

My Gigabyte R9 380 has 4GB. I'm not vouching for the usefulness of 4GB on a vanilla 380, but I'm just saying that they're out there. I ended up with the 4GB version due to it being on sale on Newegg for less money than the 2GB version when I built my computer.

That's true. I checked mindfactory.de online shop. But 4GB version of 380 seems to be just 20€ cheaper than R9 380X.

So if prices in his country are 200€ for R9 380 4GB and 220€ for R9 380X 4GB, I would go with 380X probbably :)

A 380X has more shader units and stuff its not that much better but if you can afford it over a 2GB or 4GB 380 then its worth it! :D
