Are Superclocked Cards Worth It?

HeroXLazer
Go to solution Solved by Freaky_spider,

If you have the extra cash laying around or the expendable income go for it. The card you'll get generally is a better piece of silicon and in theory should let you OC even higher. Altho its still a bit of a silicon lottery.

I'm planning to buy two Titan X's and I'm sure about it. I was looking at them, should I get the Superclocked versions for each making me paying an extra 40 per card or should I get the normal clocked cards? I can overclock... I will be overclocking.

NOT WORTH IT unless there is a sale or something that make the ''overclocked'' edition cost about the same...pushing a couple sliders in msi afterburner is effortless and will give you the extra performance for free.

Disagree. I have an EVGA overclocked GTX 970 and I get about 8-10 FPS more in games. I tested this when I dialled back the overclock when I thought my GPU was causing problems. It isn't a huge deal extra so I think it's worth it. I suppose it comes down to how much you want to be spending too.

Just buy 2 980TI's, they have the same performence of a titan x (as long as they use aftermarket cooling) but are 300 dollars cheaper each.

so

you can just push the slider and get the same overclock as the one you are getting out of the box it takes literally 15 seconds and you saved money...that's my point!

Like Freaky_Spider said, the cards tend to have better quality parts. Meaning the overclock can be pushed up, even further sometimes. Plus, the coolers are slightly better. There is a benefit to having the superclocked versions.

That's a good point too btw. The 980 ti's are better performance wise for their price. Unless you really need that much VRAM from the Titans.

the FTW and Classified cards are binned and have better coolers...anything below that does not. They are not binned they are just factory overclocked that does not mean they will go any further at all and you do not get an overbuilt PCB or a better cooler they are exaactly the same up to the FOR THE WIN card on evga side.

SC, SSC, ACX 2.0...all the same, only the factory clockspeed differ between them.

Yes. Worth every Penny because you get a high overclocked Card right out the box with the chance to get it even higher. With the Reference Card you can stuck at Factory Clock if you have  bad Luck.

Edit: I thought you talk about 980Ti´s Aftermarked Cards. Not the TitanX, my bad. Why would you buy TitanX´s anyway? Not for Gaming?

The overclock is what? 40mhz?! i would HIGHLY doubt you can't match this with a simple slider push.

Hmm...Its obvious that you dont know much about the Clockspeeds of Aftermarked Cards. I see you try desperate speak against those Cards, so no point to debate it any further with you.

Missunderstandment here. I thought he talk about 980Ti´s not TitanX. So here i kind of agree with you.

I agree, my Superclocked card has a core clock 110MHz higher. With the boost up to 1350 or something. Plus, I bet I could push it slightly further if I wanted to.

...and even then...superclock does not mean it does not use the reference blower cooler...EVGA even have SC 980ti with the reference cooler, here:

+130mhz is what you're looking at actually. Like i said just push core slider to +130 and you're done, you now have a Superclocked card for free:

no problem :)

but if we talk 980ti (which is a MUCH better idea anyways since it perform the same and cost much less) And...just in case ''out of the box'' performance and highest possible out of the box clockspeed is really the biggest concern here, i would recommend this card which has a 300mhz boost out of the box for about half the price or a titanX!

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-matrixgtx980tip6gd5gaming

That thing will slap bitch a titanX out of the box and even an overclocked titanX...to defeat this card you need an hybrid or water-cooled or basically a titanX WITHOUT the abysmall reference cooler on it. There are better options out there but like i said, out of the box clockspeed...on this one: through the roof.

yeah i wouldnt buy Asus...i did it myself and it's a good thing i did i got a very good deal on my strix card and it's decent but there are certainly better cards out there for example an extra 60$ would have got me the EVGA classified which is a MUCH better card across the board (literally speaking...it's 14+3 power phase with an LN2 bios switch :P like...come on!!)
