Chasing a problem and I'm not sure if it's the last Windows update, me adding a Shield controller to my PC, or something else. For the last week I've been unable to launch Fallout 4 and other games like JC3 crash. Sometimes just the monitor turns off, others I crash to the desktop with the game still open. Driving me crazy. Anyone else had similar issues?

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Update drivers / reinstall them

Tried that. Also tried verifying the integrity of the game cache, put the ini files to vanilla, trying different windowed modes, and lowering the resolution to 1080.

Didn't work. I'd say it might be a mod but JC3 I run vanilla and that game crashes the most to desktop.

Probably Windows 10 being Windows 10, if that's what you're using.

Yep, and it started right after the last update. But I can't find anyone else having this severe an issue. Really pissed me of because I finally had a few hour to game last night and it was lost to trouble shooting.

Yeah, it's most definitely an update. Might just have to wipe and start again.

Fixed the Fallout 4 launch issue. Looks like it was a conflict with me turning off the intro video. 1.3 must not have liked that. So the launch and crash issues are not connected...

But I did a complete removal of the ini files and allowed them to be built again, so maybe that will help in game as well. Still no idea why JC3 crashes. It's annoying because I lose video but sound continues so I hear my ass getting handed to me.

rip

Hmm... is Just Cuse 3 possibly related to just Steam not functioning right?

That's why I wonder if my controller might be the cause. I use a Nvidia Shield controller without a Shield. In some games like Wolfenstein it causes horrible problems but JC3 and Fallout 4 are on the supported list. So it "shouldn't" be the issue.

I´ve had nothing but trouble after using my shield controller on my pc. Dying light would lose ingame sound and also sometimes the game would freeze. The only way i can use it is plug in the controller after the game is fully loaded

I've heard this, I'll give that a try next time I can game. LOVE the controller, hate the support. I'm on the beta GFE which is supposed to help, guess that might not be true...

Even the Shield TV is buggy, if location services are enabled the Shield will go on an infinite bootloop

Good to know, was thinking of picking one up. But the wife has Roku so I'll wait until the bugs are worked out.

That is the only problem I have encountered to be honest. Other than that, the device is great, and the Gamestream function can come in handy

Yeah, I'm definitely going to pick one up a some point. Plan is to be able to use the big TV to game with the wife. Hence why I got a controller even though the Shield comes with one. And the controller is the best I've ever used. Feels like a Duke, which is the second best.

So, Fallout is fixed. It was a mod. Nuked that fucker back to the stone age.

On a related note, fixed the performance loss with 1.3 and Nvidia as well. Turns out is in the ini files. So anyone who reads this follow this and profit.

Window 10

Go to your documents folder, then "My Games", then "Fallout 4", then remove/delete "Fallout4, Fallout4Custom, and Fallout4Prefs" Configuration settings.

Any changes you've made to your ini files will be gone, but starting the game will replace the files. Once replaced put any changes you want back in. For some reason the ini files have conflicting values to the 1.3 patch from Bethesda. Once you allow the game to replace the ini files the values are in line with 1.3. The performance increase seen in 1.3 is from the shadow resolution cut in half. This is one change I caught in the new files, leave it. There's no change noticeable to shadow quality and the performance is back to pre 1.3 levels.

I'm leaving this open until I find a fix for JC3.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
