CPU Constantly 100%

Basically I have a i5 3550p and it's constantly running at 80 to 100% with literally nothing open more then Origin, Steam, Skype and Chrome.

 

Any help?

Close all those programs down. Go in and manage which programs opens with Windows. If neither of those things help, try running a virus scan.

ctrl+shift+esc->Processes Tab->sort by CPU usage

You can simply check there what's using up that much of your CPU

Check task manager and see what application is using your CPU. You'll probably notice it immediately.

You can turn off unwanted startup programs and processes if you want It should lower the CPU usage and make your PC faster overall.

I'm sorry but I didn't quite get what you meant with that.

Its an application that uses your CPU to fold proteins to help with medical research, it will max your CPU because the amount of stuff it needs to calculate.

Try this.......

1) click the windows ORB at bottom left of your screen

2) type power options in the search bar at bottom left of the start menu

3) click on power options

4) For which ever power plan is selected choose Change plan settings

5) Then click Change advanced  power settings

6) On the new window scroll down to Processor power management and expand that heading

7) Then expand Minimum processor state and if the value is higher than 5% reduce it to 5% and if it is at 5% then it is something else

I thought it was Stanford University in California not Cambridge here in the UK. Cambridge is still a very good university none the less.
