I have a home theater setup with a Sony 75 inch 4k tv. I need a server setup that would allow me to put video on the dedicated server from other computers and stream it to the 4K TV and others (at the same time if possible). Should i go with some pre-built solution or make a computer myself? Any feedback welcome!

well, the setup is pretty simple actually:

- make sure your home network is wired gigabit, preferably also to your home theater, it'll greatly improve loading times.

- build a nas, or use an old computer that still has the required cpu horses to push gigabit, and preferably has some sort of motherboard raid, although thats not required.

- drop two hard drives in, either in raid1 (if available) or use one as the networked drive and do nightly backups to the other (the frankenstein way of doing it)

- ???

- profit.

i REALLY cannot recommend a prebuilt nas, because most people i know with one of those it ends up being a disaster story.

Build a computer yourself and use it as a NAS.

Thanks for the info, so will the server setup need a strong enough cpu to encode 4K or what requirements am i looking for?
