AMD used to have that all-stops-unplugged FX-9590 and R9 295X but Intel never have those even in their "extreme edition" offerings. Now assume we can modify one of the Intel processors to do the impossible (think it as Intel ME firmware flash) what would you do?

 

I have two (three?) "pies in the sky," based on LGA1151 and LGA2011-3 sockets. Not only did I laid out specs I also gave them names that should fit into Intel's naming scheme.

 

LGA1151 socket: Intel Xeon E3-1230Kv5 (or Core i7-6703K). It have all the same specs as the Xeon E3-1230v5, but it is a K SKU - features an unlocked multiplier. And to make overclocking work, it can work with Z170 along with C232 and C236 motherboards (the consumer-grade chipset support include only Z170.) Recommended pricing: $275. I am trying to combine the best of K SKU and Xeon E3-1230 series in this chip. It features the same higher quality silicon, cool-running chip, low voltages and great value as the Xeon but the unlocked multiplier can make it an overclocker's delight. And for most overclockers, the iGPU in normal i7's are almost always a burden and this chip got rid of it entirely. I cannot decide if it is better listed as a Xeon (E3-1230Kv5) or an i7 (i7-6703K, the 3 represents its root as an Xeon E3) so just let it be that... A lower end Xeon E3-1220Kv5 (or i5-6603K) can also be added into this mix.

 

LGA2011-3 socket UP: Intel Core i7-6995X. If Haswell-E is any indicator there will be a Broadwell Xeon E5-2699v4 replacing the 18-core Xeon E5-2699v3, probably a 20-core 40-thread monstrosity. This i7-6995X is the multiplier unlocked version of that. Overclocking all 20 cores will be scarily hot (real extreme users, try get this at 5.0GHz on 20 cores ?) but the real smart overclocker can adjust the turbo multiplier - keep it stock when all 20 cores are fired up, but smash the leaderboards when up to four cores are fired up. Some thing like this turbo setup: 5.0/4.8/4.8/4.7/4.5/4.2/4.0/3.8/3.6/3.5/3.4/3.3/3.2/3.1/3.0/2.9/2.8/2.7/2.6/2.5GHz turbo map.

The Xeon lineup already defeated the purpose of any i7 thanks to ASRock bringing back SetFSB in their C232 board with discrete clock generator.
