For video editing you really need 16 GB of RAM or more depending on resolution.

If he's only doing simple game footage editing 16 GB is probably not necessary and he can upgrade later if it becomes an issue.

Now what I'd highly recommend is a processor with at least 8 threads if you want a good editing experience. Something like an i7 or a Xeon.  The extra threads really help with editing.

@Go_On_Shadow

- Get windows for about 20 dollars : https://www.reddit.com/r/microsoftsoftwareswap/ or G2A.com

- Maybe get a bit better monitor ( 300 dollars )

- You're missing somthing for storage ( Get a small SSD for fast boot and overall performance and an HDD for mass storage)

- If you go for an overclockable intel cpu get a better cooler to take maximum advantage of the cpu's potential.

The problem with that, is that you need to go over to X99, which will increase the cost a lot.

Only cheap way to get 6 cores or more is AMD, but that requires more of the cooling again.

I speak my mind, sorry if thats a problem.

I think you miss read, I said 8 threads not cores.  You can get the i7-4770K or Xeon 1231 V3 for the H81, B85, H97, Z97 platforms.  These are Quad Core 8 thread processors.

Yeah, I miss read that, but its because no one seems to talk about threads when it comes to multi tasking.

Its always cores that matters, as 8 threads is slower then 8 real cores.

If you don't already have the copy of windows I'd recommend getting it here: http://www.kinguin.net/category/19429/windows-10-professional-oem-key/  for $20.

If you need proof it works, Paulshardware just did a video on it here: https://goo.gl/IJdwZf
