So at random times, primarily when playing games, the system hard locks, forcing a reset. I checked drivers and I checked hardware connections. What could be the problem. Could it be a power failure or voltage spike?

Im thinking its a power issue, because it only started happening after i got my 960 and 970 but didn't happen with my geforce 210

It could be hardware failure too. It's hard to tell. I had a motherboard that caused my system to lock up and also killed two of my ssds before I found out. I that it was my ssds dieing, but I was my motherboard that was killing them. Power failure seems unlikely, your whole system would probably just shut off if that was the case.

If it's hardlocking, it's likely hardware failure of some kind. Try swapping out parts

725w is more than enough to power your system - its possible your PSU could be failing, but your PC would be shutting itself off rather than freezing - it's likely something running in the background or an issue with the hardware/drivers.

Do you see anything in the Event logs?

As Enderman stated, how about Performance monitor?

Drivers would likely cause a blue screen, not hard freezing. It's more likely a drive or other hardware failure

Still probably not the power supply, if it was, everything else on the 12v rail would fail as well, causing your system to just shut off

It does completely shut down every now and then and my psu is really the only semi shoddy part that i also didn't test for issues
