Hardreset laptop

Go to solution Solved by alexhelvetica,

You possibly broke the ram.

Try reseating the ram, if that doesn't work try a single dimm of Ram.

hey guys,

I just tried to open my sisters laptop and won't boot right now. (didn't change anything just removed the RAM and HDD, they are back now) It powers on and the fans start to spin but the screen stays black. Also the caps lock led starts blinking.

I don't know what to do.

But hardest would be a option but if i do it would any documents be lost ?

this is how to do it:

To perform a hard reset on a computer with a removable battery, use the following steps:
  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Disconnect the computer from any port replicator or docking station.
  3. Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.
  4. Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
  5. Remove the battery from the battery compartment.
  6. Press and hold down the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.
  7. Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook computer, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.
  8. Press the Power button to turn on the computer.
  9. If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, then press the Enter key.
  10. After reconnecting each of the peripheral devices, run Windows Update and HP Support Assistant to update all device drivers

Well that might be the problem. I can't figure out how to properly fit them in. Doesn't seem to work like other laptops.

it's ram...unless this system is from the 80's, it should be pretty straight forward. What is the model number of the laptop?
