Hey guys,

I've had my current PC for about 10 months now, and at the start, everything worked perfectly. But now, for some reason, my Windows Explorer is crashing when I do certain things.

It will crash when:
- I try to rename multiple files

- (sometimes) when I try to move multiple files to the other storage device

- I try to play a large video file (through any application, VLC, Windows Media Player, QuickTime)
- (sometimes) even when I open up a folder containing large files (such as a season of a television show)

I uploaded a YouTube video (approx. 30 seconds) just to make sure everyone understands what my problem is.

So, does anyone have any possible solutions for me to try? It would be gladly appreciated, thanks. :)

Did you try scanning with sfc /scannow?

Intel Core 6700K | Gigabyte GTX 970 | Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133

Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo | Phanteks Enthoo Pro | Samsung 850 EVO 250GB | Western Digital Blue 2TB

Try disabling Fast Startup and then restarting. Instructions here:

It might help with the stability issues.

I also have issues with Windows 10 file explorer crashing. Mine are different than the OP's though. Every time I do the keyboard shortcut command or the shortcut icon on the taskbar, my screens flash black, the desktop reloads and file explorer doesn't load. If I go through Task manager and manually start a new task for explorer.exe, it opens the file explorer without issue.

However, if I then in turn do the keyboard shortcut of Window+E or click the icon on the taskbar, then the screen flashes black, all windows of file explorer have crashed and the desktop flashes up.

Going into cmd in admin mode and executing "SFC /SCANNOW" command and rebooting after it finished did not work. It did detect errors, but fixed them and did not tell me what those errors were.

All of this is after an "upgrade" from windows 7. As I only had less than 5% left on my hard drive after the "upgrade," I removed my old version of Windows 7. I'm thinking if I can't fix this that I'm going to have to try and save all important data, find the $20 Win10 keys from Paul's Hardware links and rebuild my system (something I really do not want to do).
