The way to go is NVME on m.2 but over PCI-E not sata. so board and device is relevant. Sammy 950 is it with a board that uses pci-e lanes insead of sata (will be a note saying either x or y is disabled in pcpartpicker)

But thats for the top end... what do you need it for? m.2 is neater in a build anyway.

But it doesn't make a device inherantly faster as this article shows, they are identical performance.

well there were 3 samsung ssd's with that being the only difference.  Internet said m.2 is newer and better plus the size advantage so I guess its that one

If you want to be able to tell easily if a board uses sata or pci-e lanes.. look at the compatibility note on this build.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6FP6TW

With the speed of the drive (the samsung 950) the sata interface isn't fast enough.. so if you were to go that route you would know you need a different motherboard to the one selected in order to get the benefit of all that speed and money.

It will also tell you if it has any major compatibility issues for whatever device your looking at (the 850 EVO M.2 I gather)..

What are you using it for.. the CPU is overkill if not editing / rendering / using VM's or streaming and heavy heavy multi-tsking

I had another thread going that came to the conclusion that the ugly ass air cooling cpu cooler was the best short of a custom loop.  But its soooo ugly

Ahh, right... If your going for the hydro card, go for the aio cooler... iif you don't want the aio (water) cooling, change the card too, it has the same pro's and cons.

There are some good better looking ones.. check out phanteks, promiligatec, be-quiet for some options on the high end coolers.
